No, nothing about drugs or anything of the sort… So you don’t have to give me some sort of intervention…
I’m talking about my teaching style.
See, I was looking after this class yesterday. The teacher who usually teaches them was not feeling well. I had been asked to subsitute for yesterday (and again today). I had prepared a dinosaur themed day for them, since they were learning about dinosaurs. But as the day went, it became a disaster. The students were basically playing up. No, they do it to their usual teacher as well. That could be the reason why she’s away, but I can’t guarantee that…
Since I knew I was going to teach today, I prepared a lot of work for them to do last night. Their literacy block basically consisted of 3 reading activities and 3 writing activities. I split the students into 3 groups and went through the reading component. The first group did a dinosaur reading task. The second did guided reading with me. The third did silent reading. The writing component had a consonant blends activity, a dinosaur cloze exercise (where you fill in the missing words) and a dinosaur facts activity.
Before even starting any of the activities, I gave them a full on talk about their behaviour yesterday. I told them that I wasn’t going to put up with any of their rubbish today and that they will be sent straight to the principals office if they make one false move.
Since it was a Catholic school, we talked about Holy Week and kicked it off with Palm Sunday. Had activity after activity for them to do until the end of the day. Many did the right thing, and as a reward, i read them the story “All Aboard the Dinotrain“.
Overall, today was actually a really good day, even though I was being a dragon (not a baby dragon…) to the students. I was basically screamed at those who did the wrong thing. They probably thought that my threats about sending them to the principal’s office was fake… oh were they wrong… Ended up sending one student because he was not doing what he was supposed to do. Don’t worry, I dished out a lot of positive reinforcement stuff to those who actually did the right thing.
Oh and if you haven’t noticed already, I did streak my hair. Was thinking about doing it for a while now. Wasn’t sure what colour to do it this time around. I had blonde tips twice before. This time I opted for red (inspired by my Second Life character). Yes, I know I look weird with red in my hair. But hey, it’s my hair.
Not quite a nice photo, but it’ll have to do. Wednesday to Friday, I’m assisting with the Middle School Camp. I will take my camera with me, in case I spot a koala riding a kangaroo, playing a boomerang-like didgeridoo, all the while saying crikey and hooley dooleying it up with a daggy trakkie dacks-wearing baby (who ate a dingo and is carrying a knoife, no that’s not a knoife). They’re a very rare, so I’ll have to be very quiet.
The other day I was playing a game for the PS2 called Shadow of the Colossus. I didn’t like the weird camera angles, especially in tight situations. Also, the only way to figure out where to go is by shining your sword against the sunlight and watching where the beam converges. The controls need some getting used to.
However, there are some good points about this game. The scenic rendering is just amazing. The lighting effects are superb. Each colossus fight that you encounter all have their own challenges to defeat.
I was annoyed during some of the missions (Brian was hoping that I was able to defeat this one Colossus being, as I had figured out how to stun it). But I was able to defeat the sand snake and the boar…
I think you guys should take a look at this game if you’re into playing challenging games.
While playing Eve Online, I was reacquainted with TeamSpeak. The last time I used TeamSpeak was when I was playing Guild Wars. Now that I’m playing Eve Online, I could use TeamSpeak to talk to other players and strategize attacks, etc. It is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
