Decisions

June 17th, 2009 4 Comments

I’ve been thinking about it for a while.. and tonight I have made a decision…

Ever since I graduated from university, I’ve been receiving information about teaching in the UK. Every year, I receive calls from them, and every time I decline because I wanted to work locally.

After much thought, I’ve decided to take the plunge and teach there next January.

It’s not like if I went there just after graduating.. I know what the schools there are like (at least the schools that they’ll transfer you to). In all honesty though, working in the tough schools would help me develop professionally.

Knowing my family and friends, they would be both happy and worried for me. But think of it this way.. If I’m still there in 2012, you’ll have a place to stay during the Olympics. ^.^

Halfway through my tenure. It has been good so far. Next week, I will start to finish off the topics. This will not only tell me how well they have retained information, but also indicate how well of an educator I am.

One thing’s for sure, they enjoy having me there.

It has been a busy week for me. I have not had time to relax, other than when I’m asleep..

Last week my bank called me and informed me that my VISA card may have been compromised. I’m not quite sure how, but as a precaution, they were going to cancel my card and send me a new one (at no charge). I didn’t mind since it was going to expire soon anyway, so I now have a new card and a bunch of numbers to remember.

Spanish has generally been good so far. Most, if not all, of the students were very pleased to see me back. Some even missed seeing me (since I had a contract at another school last year). I was given the topics that I needed to cover for each class. I just needed to plan the activities etc. Which isn’t difficult at all.. Just need to modify them as I go, since it could be either to easy or too hard for the students.

I also received my payslip from the public sector and from the look of things, I think I may have already paid off a ticket back to the US. Except, I’m still going to refrain from buying it, in case some other nasty surprise pops up.

My friend Seamonkey is off to her holiday. At the moment, she is in New Zealand. I’m sure she’ll have a great time while she’s away.

My other friend Dennis got his job back at Subway. I personally think that it’s a good thing, since he could make me free sandwiches (except he lives in Chicago.. and they can’t email sandwiches over).

Well that’s all so far. Three weeks to go until my short term contract ends. Will be staying after work tomorrow for drinks and nibbles, though it depends.. XD

I may have some good news to share next week. It’s not really going to effect you guys… It’s more for my benefit. Can’t really say too much, since it’s all hush hush at the moment. But if you read the category of this blog post, you can probably guess what it might be.

The Call

I’m now back in Aussieland (just got back about 7 hours ago, actually). Like before, I was kinda sad to fly back home. The best part of my vacation was the part where I didn’t have to fly back to Australia… hehe…

I’m basically ready to teach in the US. The only thing I needed to do was to speak to a school district and have them petition for me to teach in the States. I didn’t get a chance to do that this time around, but will most likely finalise all that on my next trip back (yes, it’s been planned already).

Anyway, I switched the sim card of my phone back to the Australian one and as soon as I turned it on, I received a message from a school. This school is looking for a Junior Primary Teacher, however the school is located at Peterborough.

I’ve never even heard of a place called Peterborough. According to Google Map, it’s a small town about 3 and a half hours north of Adelaide (about 242 km – or 150.38 miles – from Adelaide). I personally would not be able to take this position due to the fact that I don’t drive.
